- Motorcycle Insurance
Motorcycle riders in Cumming, GA need to make sure they are protected before they get out on the road. The fact is that Georgia residents who own or lease motorcycles must have the vehicle properly registered, and while motorcycle insurance itself is not technically a legal requirement, the state does mandate that these residents establish "financial responsibility" for the motorcycle.
In a nutshell, this means that if you own or lease a motorcycle, you must prove that you are financially capable of covering any costs that result from an accident. The easiest way to do this is to get motorcycle liability insurance.
What is Motorcycle Liability Insurance?
Liability insurance helps pay for costs associated with an insurance claim. Traditionally, you must be found liable for an accident or other cause of damage with your motorcycle, but there are many situations these days in which legal costs can still fall on you even if you were not technically the one liable or "at fault." For those in Georgia using motorcycle insurance as their financial responsibility requirement (which will be the vast majority of motorcycle owners), the state Department of Motor Vehicles has the following coverage amount requirements:
- $25,000 per person for bodily injury
- $50,000 per accident for bodily injury to two or more people
- $25,000 per accident for property damage
Not having motorcycle insurance or other proof of financial responsibility (keep in mind that insurance is still the easiest way to do this) can result in hefty fines from the state, and you may even have your registration suspended.
